Water Purification Prototype
While in 1998, 87% of Venezuelans had access to a regular supply of clean drinking water, by February 2020, reports showed that one out of every four households does not have sustainable access to potable water.
An engineering company is testing a prototype for a low-cost, energy-efficient water purification system for rural and underserved communities. The project will implement a solar energy system that can produce drinking water for local use and generate value-added products marketed for food and agricultural products.
The production of potable water provides access to clean water for personal consumption and the opportunity to sell it to markets. It allows the community to use the revenues to cover most of the purification system’s operational costs, freeing them from the operational economic burden.
