Las Reinas Pepiadas Foundation

Challenge

The migration crisis in Venezuela disproportionately affects women and girls, who often suffer some type of violence in their condition of human mobility due to their situation of vulnerability, lack of economic resources and loss of basic rights. The different forms of violence against women affects their individual development, their capabilities and limit their economic and social inclusion in the host communities.

Solution

Ecuador has been one of the main destinations of the Venezuelan migrant population, receiving more than 440,000 to date, with women being one of the most vulnerable sectors. With  the support of BetterTogether, the organization 'Las Reinas Pepiadas' will promote an innovative initiative to create a safe migratory route for migrant women offering information, support and resources for the prevention of gender-based violence in the migratory process.

This initiative, which will benefit more than 200 women and their families, will promote a communications strategy and a personalized support program, with digital tools and platforms, to make migrant women's stories visible, offer training so that migrants understand their rights, develop empowerment mechanisms and access tools of support to protect themselves.
